Convert from one coordinate system to WGS84 (google earth)

Here is a general method of easily converting from one coordinate system to WGS84. However you do need to know the latitude/longitude of two points in the job.

In this case we have a client with data in Kentucky Single Plane. This is a later state plane coordinate system. Unfortunately the library we use doesn't include this later addition. So if we need a georeferenced job then we need to convert it to a system that is supported. We have the following job in Kentucky Single plane:

We nned to know the lat/longs of at least 2 points in the job. The further apart the points are apart the better. In this case lets pick points 306705 in the lower left and 301350 in the upper right. As we are using a state plane coordinate system we can use an online tool to get a lat/long from its coordinates.   https://www.earthpoint.us/stateplane.aspx

If we fill in the values and calc we are given the gps units.

Now go back to Ezigrade and click on Tools -> Lat Long

Click OK.

Repeat for point 301350.

Click on the Tools -> Local Transform menu item

This shows all the points in the job that have an associated latitude and longitude set. Before you do anything you are forced to hit the "Check" button.

Before proceeding make sure that the scale and rotation make sense. Look at the distance before and after. They are unlikely to be the same (unless we already have a WGS84 system) but they should be similar. This value makes sense so press OK and the job is converted.

To check I displayed a background image and it looks OK.

If we go to File -> Geoid   we can see our data is in WGS84 zone 16 North.
