Viewer

The main activity of the app is the data viewer.

This allows us to view point data. String data which can be lots as well as road centre-lines and any other feature representaed as a string. We can also view contours.

When first starting the "CDSViewer" app we have the available file listed that can be displayed. In the example below the files ending with ".cdsdat" are the files available. These are the files that are supplied as example files. At present these need to be created with the desktop program "CDS". If you are not a current customer please note that CDS comes as a 60 day triaI which allows you to create as many files as you need.

It is also worth mentioning that CDS contains routines that allow data from different programs such as 12D, Carlson etc as well as LandXML and many other popular Civil formats to be imported. Again this is all  available in the 60 day trial download.

When running for the first time you can see that the following jobs are available: ghana_pit, stockpile and subdivision.

Click on the "stockpile.cdsdat" item and the following view is displayed:-

The view supports dynamic pan, simply place finger on the screen and drag as well as dynamic zoom. Use two fingers and do what they call a pinch zoom.

There are some more hidden options. If you select a point or its associated text then the coordinates of that point are displayed. See below for an example:

Display Options:

This allows you to customize how the view is displayed. The points are always displayed. You can optionally view either point numbers, heights, design heights, codes or descriptions. If you wish to display nothing and you are displaying points then click on "points" again and no attributes will be displayed.

If there are strings in the job then clicking on "strings" options will display them. Clicking them again and "strings" are turned off.

If there are contours in the job then clicking on "contours" options will display them. Clicking them again and "contours" are turned off.

Point Options:

Clicking on "Point Options" gives you addional options of "Join" and "GPS Join". If you select Join you can tap two points on the screen and a line is drawn between them giving you a bearing in degs.mmss and distance in meters or feet.

Selecting the GPS Join turns on the GPS and you then need to tap a point. A line will be drawn from GPS to the tapped point. The GPS may be off the page. The line with a bearing and distance is still drawn so that updated bearing and distance is available. At present coordinates must be in UTM meters for the GPS Join to work correctly.

Listings:

Clicking on the "Listings" options only gives the single option of "List Pts". Clicking on this displays the points in the database in a table. See screen shot below:
